When trying to do a write up about me, it felt strange - how do you explain your love and passion for what you do on a daily basis?

 

They say “ Do something you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” Well for me, I have been lucky in that aspect. I was a professional Fastpitch softball player, and now I work with animals all day, everyday.

 

I was born and raised in South Africa. I grew up with all types of animals. From dogs and cats, to snakes, sheep, ducks, chickens.... you name it. When I was 11 years old, I was attacked by a neighbors dog. I remember being at the hospital and being terrified to go back home because we had two big dogs at home. My mom took my hand, and told me that the first thing I would be doing is spending time with my dogs once we got home. She had told me that bad things happen, but that I could not let this negative experience dictate my love for animals. Looking back, it was one of the best life lessons I learnt.

That experience could have changed my life, I could have hated dogs and been scared, but all it did was make me want to understand animals even more.

 

As a professional athlete, I’ve traveled the world, and stayed in some amazing places. Looking after my host families animals was something I always took on. It gave me purpose when I wasn’t on the ball field.

 

Working with animals has been a unique kind of therapy for me. Animals have a way of creeping into your heart without you even realizing it. Every client I take on, becomes a part of my ever-growing heart.
